What I Wish I Knew To Get More Flexible

“I wish I knew how much strength it takes to be flexible!

A while ago, I didn't know what the term active flexibility meant. When I stretched, I would just sit and hold the stretches. I rarely did any active flexibility exercises that worked on my strength and when I did moves such as the #pdchopstick or my front splits in a forearm stand, I would wonder why I could get my splits on the floor but couldn't get them in the air.

I also remember attending my first contortion class expecting to be doing super back bendy things but instead we did a full class of active flexibility strengthening exercises. It left me really confused!

But strength and active flexibility was key. And it was not until recently that I realised why we were doing all these exercises and how much difference it makes when you are in an active flex pose.
